John Derian for Target

John Derian has been making what I can only call “Granny Glam” from his New York studio since 1989 and I am here for it! Think nostalgia, meets botany, meets American folk art.

Last month his studio dropped a collaboration with Target to get us ready for Thanksgiving. Considering the cost of a platter from his namesake studio is nearly $300, I think you need to run to Target because this collection is a steal! And yes, I did in fact take myself directly to Target and buy up a number of these items. Unfortunately, the gorgeous mushroom pillow was completely sold out in stores and online by the time I looked. My heart was and still is broken over it.

Here are a few items I bought from the collection:

What can I say? This gorgeous pillow retails for $20 but could easily go for 5x that. It is beautifully detailed with embroidery and beading. The cover is made with 100% cotton canvas and velvet which makes it feel substantial and luxurious. It has a removable cover with hidden zipper for easy cleaning.

This pillow gives off the coziest harvest feelings and makes me nostalgic for New England. It features a textured print of pumpkin and corn bunting with ribbon over a floral background. Similar to the turkey pillow its cover is zippered and is made of 100% cotton with velvet backing.

It has a running print of the pumpkin and corn bunting from the pillow above. The orientation alternates over the length of the runner so there is no worry about which side is “up”. This is currently on my table and it’s lovely. It dresses things up nicely without being fussy. It’s already been spilled on and cleaned and it still looks great!

There’s something a bit Rockwellian about this platter and it’s probably my favorite item from the collection. The colors are vivid yet subdued and since it’s stoneware you can put it in the microwave and dishwasher. While it’s not big enough to serve the actual bird on, you could and should serve up some tasty appetizers on this beauty.

This classic stoneware platter IS big enough to serve the turkey on but you may not want to carve on it because it has some sculptural relief, meaning the the surface is slightly raised. This feature along with the vibrant colors and floral border make this platter one you will want to use for many years to come!

And last but not least, this cotton-linen runner has black and white sketch-like illustrations of botanical imagery reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland. The are even the obligatory mushrooms! This is a gorgeous piece that can easily find a place at your table year round.
